WOCRC taking kids to Morris Island Sept. 17

VYDON ACRES – In the age of COVID-19 and virtual events, the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is hosting an event at a place where you can attend, in person.

The WOCRC’s Outdoor Adventures is heading to the Morris Island Conservation Area for a tour of the old voyageur and miner’s trail. The event is for children from newborn to six-years-old accompanied by a parent.

“Join us for a weekly walk and learn outdoor adventure through some of our communities’ best natural spaces,” WOCRC staff released in a statement. “We will meet at various trails for physically distanced walks and complete short activities and learning experiences as we go along. Our program will continue rain or shine as long as safety is maintained.”

If there is extreme weather or changes in Ottawa Public Health recommendations concerning COVID-19, families will be contacted via the e-mail registered with on Eventbrite with as much notice as possible.

The Outdoor Adventure is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Morris Island Conservation Area is located along the Ottawa River in the community of Vydon Acres. This 47-hectare site consists of forested woodlands and wetlands that will appeal to nature enthusiasts of all ages.

Located at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) in Kanata, the EarlyON Child and Family Centre is part of an extensive network set up across the province for children newborn to 6 years old and their parents or caregivers.

Parents or guardians must register every individual child and adult who will attend the program. All children and family members will be screened by phone no more than four hours prior to the start of program. If the screening is not completed by phone, it will be done on site.
