WCAS’ Artistic Creations show finds success at new location
Special to WC Online
CARP – The West Carleton Art Society’s Artistic Creations show moved out of the Village of Carp’s core this year, but still found success at tits new location at the Huntley Community Association (HCA) Carp Mess Hall.
The annual art show which features artwork from WCAS members priced $200 or less, had a long time home at the Carp Agricultural Hall. Last year, they moved next door to St. Paul’s United Church, but moved once again this year to the Mess Hall. WCAS organizers also tightened the show up, only having it on Friday (Nov. 29) and Saturday (Nov. 30), dropping the Sunday show from the weekend.
WCAS President Robert Reid is calling the event a success.
“Congratulations to the 21 artists and artisans participating in the show,” Reid released in a statement Wednesday (Dec. 11). “We generated just under $5,000 in sales and nearly $300 for the West Carleton Secondary School Art Program.
Forty-six perc ent of sale items were $100 and over and 81 per cent of participants made more than their entrance fee.
“As well as student volunteers, we had a students’ booth exhibiting the artwork of several budding artists,” Reid said. “This year we had opted to hold it on the Friday and Saturday only, and our main challenge was the new location, the Mess Hall, on Craig Side Road. There was a lot of publicity (social media, road signs, Curbex signs, TV, the HUMM, West Carleton Online, the Ottawa Citizen calendar, etc.) and we had a total of 362 visitors. A huge thank you to all the people who helped and participated.”
