OPH confirms second COVID-19 case at Stonecrest

KINBURN – In the case of COVID-19, where there is one, there is usually another.

Last Friday Ottawa Public Health(OPH)  confirmed a second case of COVID-19 at Stonecrest Elementary School near Kinburn.

On Sunday, Nov. 22 OPH confirmed the school’s first case. Last Friday, OPH confirmed the school’s second case.

“I am emailing because OPH  has been notified that an individual associated with Stonecrest Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19,” principal Nancy Dlouhy wrote in an email to parents very similar to the principal’s first email. “ I realize that this information may be stressful and would like you to know we are working with Ottawa Public Health to navigate this situation.”

OPH is working with the school to identify students and staff who are high risk contacts of a person who tested positive.

“If your child is a high-risk contact, by end of day (Friday) you will receive a letter from OPH with instructions on self isolating at home and next steps,” Dlouhy said. “If you do not receive a letter by the end of the day, you or your child are not a high-risk contact. As you may understand, the identify of the person who tested positive is confidential.”

The second case is also classified as a student case by the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) COVID-19 dashboard document all cases of COVID-19 within the school board.

In October, West Carleton Secondary School became the first school in West Carleton to have a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Those cases have been resolved, but the school board confirms there is one active case of COVID-19 within the student body.

All other West Carleton schools remain COVID-19 free at this time. All Saints High School, a school some West Carleton students also attends, also has no active cases at this time.
