Old Sled Run turns 19 Feb. 15
CONSTANCE BAY – The Old Sled Run has been around so long now, it’s almost as old as some of the snowmobiles that show up.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 616 presents the 19th annual Old Sled Run Sunday, Feb. 15 kicking off at the branch (377 Allbirch Rd.) with breakfast starting at 8 a.m.
“Please plan to join us for the 19th annual Constance Bay Old Sled Run,” organizers released in a statement today (Jan. 16). “All sleds are welcome – if you are bringing a newer sled please try to include a tow rope See you soon.”
As is tradition, sleds and sled heads will gather at the West Carleton Royal Canadian Legion in Constance Baystarting at 8 a.m. for breakfast (available for $10) and to register (registration for the run is $20, $25 for the whole family). Registration also includes chili and hot dogs after the run, back at the branch.
The official run starts at 10 a.m.
“An off-trail parade to Quyon,” organizers said.
Following the run, the Old Sled Run will hand out its usual array of awards for both sleds, riders and rider outfits including youngest and oldest rider, oldest machine, best rare iron, best original, best restoration, best rat sled, best vintage suit and loudest muscle sled as well as the coveted Spirit of Vintage Snowmobiling award.
“A true test of men, women, children and machines,” organizer Mike O’Reilly said. “All proceeds benefit Branch 616. Thanks to our sponsors The Point Lounge, Happy Times Pizza, Goldie Mohr Constructino and Phil Sadler at Cavanagh’s.”
Last year’s Old Sled Run was nearly snowed over as 63 centimetres of the white stuff blanketed the ground. We spoke to the youngest rider’s dad, because the youngest rider, Constance Bay’s Jaxon Wooley, was only 18 months old, riding a Kitty Kat.
“Jaxon was one month old when I bought it,” his dad Jesse told West Carleton Online.
