New location, date picked for Gil Read fastball tournament
FITZROY HARBOUR – The 13th Annual Gill Read Memorial Fastball Tournament has a new date and a new home.
The popular tournament is moving to Fitzroy Harbour and will be held July 24 to July 26.
“With the Carp Fairgrounds hosting the Alterna Savings U23 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in late July, this year’s event will take place at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre, 20 kilometres west of Carp,” Eastern Ontario Fastball Blog publisher Adam Brown said Feb. 15. “This is an open class tournament without restriction.”
Entry fee is $450 with prize money to be confirmed based on number of entries.
“We anticipate lots of fans in the Harbour, and as always there will be a beer garden and food stand,” Brown said. “Proceeds will be in support of the Gil Read Memorial Foundation.”
Last year’s nine-team event was won for the third year in a row by Elkland Beverage Co. from Pennsylvania.
