Mild weather postpones C Bay Family Day kids fishing derby

CONSTANCE BAY – This unprecedented mild February weather will delay a popular Constance Bay kids ice fishing derby that was hoping to make its return from COVID-19 this weekend.
The Constance Bay Kids Ice Fishing Derby scheduled for Buckham’s Bay this Sunday has been postponed due to concern over the mild weather and ice conditions due to that weather.
The event regularly drew more than 100 kids during pre-COVID times. The last derby was held in 2020 and was the 13th annual event at the time and 140 kids registered for that event.
Kevin and Shadine Robinson organize the annual derby with their business Bayview Bait and Tackle as the title sponsor.
“When we get the weather, the kids come out,” Kevin told West Carleton Online.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little longer for the derby’s return from COVID.
“I think we have to cancel/postpone the Kids Fishing Derby,” Shadine told West Carleton Online today (Feb. 14). “We are really just making the decision now with these crazy temperatures.”
Organizers hope to still have the derby later this year and are eyeing March 11, the first weekend of the March Break as the make-up date.
