Metal, e-waste recycling in Carp Oct. 24 weekend

Special to WC Online

CARP – Clear out that garage before the snow flies with the help of the Huntley Community Association (HCA).

The HCA is hosting its semi-regular scrap metal and e-waste recycling event in the parking lot of the W. Erskine Johnston Arena (3832 Carp Rd.) from Friday, Oct. 24 to Sunday, Oct. 26.

“The HCA is once again providing local area residents with an environmentally convenient way to recycle metal waste,” the HCA released in a statement Tuesday (Oct. 14). “One bin takes anything with wires or screens. The other bin takes all metals except items with coolant (fridges, freezers, AC units) which cannot be recycled at this event.”

The bins will be on site all weekend just outside the Huntley Community Centre (108 Juanita Ave.) and depending when you drop by, there may be someone to help you.

“Volunteers will often be onsite to guide residents on placement of items in the two bins,” the HCA said. “Availability of assistance will depend on the number of volunteers who can offer some time to help. Please send a note to volunteer@hca-carp.ca if you are able to help out. Thank you to Metro Scrap Metal for again supplying storage bins at no cost.”

Examples of thing that will be accepted include:

  • Bicycles
  • BBQs
  • Old electrical cords
  • Microwaves
  • TVs
  • Any old appliance (except fridges or freezers)
  • Fans
