FITZROY HARBOUR – The province is rebounding from COVID-19 and the time is right for the Fitzroy Harbour Community Association (FHCA) to celebrate a mighty big milestone in true Fitzroy Harbour fashion.
“The FHCA has several events planned for 2022,” the board of directors released in a statement today (March 16). “Save the dates below on your calendar.”
It’s the 45th anniversary of the community’s most important hub, the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre, and the FHCA is ready to celebrate. Okay, the first event may not be a celebration, but is none the less, very important.
On Thursday, May 5 starting at 7 p.m. the FHCA will host its annual general meeting.
“Find out more about your community association and get involved and help plan the next year going forward,” the FHCA said.
Saturday May 14 from 8 a.m. to noon the FHCA will participate in the Spring Cleaning the Capital event.
“The plan is for participants to meet at the community centre to collect gloves and garbage bags and a map for an assigned clean-up area,” the board said. “Refreshments will be available. Students can earn Community Involvement Program volunteer hours.”
The FHCA is bringing back the popular Harbour Days summer festival with tentative dates set for Thursday July 7 to Saturday July 9.
“The much-anticipated return of the Harbour Days summer festival,” the board said. “Activities for young and old. A full schedule of activities will be posted once confirmed.”
The last time the FHCA hosted the popular community event was in 2019. For the last two years, Harbour Days was cancelled due to the pandemic.
And late in summer the official celebration of the community centre on Saturday, Aug. 27.
“A dinner and dance to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre,” the board said. “More info to follow, but save the date.”
