FITZROY HARBOUR – Another summer mainstay community event in Fitzroy Harbour has been cancelled due to the pandemic.
The long-running and very popular Harbour Days Fitzroy Harbour weekend festival will not be happening this summer.
“Given the ongoing provincial and municipal restrictions, unfortunately Harbour Days 2020 scheduled for the first week of July has been cancelled,” the Fitzroy Harbour Community Association (FHCA) released in a statement last Saturday (May 30). “We look forward to hosting our summer festival again in 2021.”
The Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre, like all city-owned recreation centres, remains closed due to the pandemic, but the FHCA says some usage around the facility is permitted.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre building is closed to the public until further notice, including the Library,” the FHCA said. “However, the City of Ottawa made an announcement about recreation facilities recently regarding outdoor grounds usage. Softball diamonds and soccer fields are open for casual use, for groups of five or fewer. Physical distancing of two metres must still be respected. Organized sports leagues/full games are not permitted at this time. Tennis courts (on the outdoor rink surface) are open for community use on a first come first served basis. The playground remains closed and off limits for use.”
