Great Galetta Rummage Sale highlights busy WC weekend

GALETTA – The biggest sale in Galetta is this weekend, and its just one massive event in a weekend full of them in West Carleton.
The annual Great Galetta Rummage Sale is traditionally the Galetta Community Association’s (GCA) biggest fundraiser of the year and a popular event each and every year.
“The GCA will once again be hosting their annual rummage sale,” the GCA released in a statement.
The sale starts Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a canteen available provided by the West Carleton 4-H Club. As is tradition, prices will drop throughout the weekend. The rummage sale continues on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everything is half price.
On Monday, Oct. 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. you can come by and help yourself to whatever’s left.
The sale is cash only and held at the Galetta Community Centre (119 Darwin St.).
That event is just one of several great events going on around West Carleton this coming weekend. We have already done individual stories on these coming events, but we felt we should pack them in to one story so you can plan your weekend accordingly (or you can check out our Events Listings here).
Either way, you better start your weekend on a full tummy, and you can do that in Kinburn, Friday (Oct. 18) evening with lasagna and live music. Doors open at 6 p.m. and The Wilson Brothers will be performing.
Saturday is busy with four events taking place within West Carleton including the rummage sale.
On both Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 20) the fall edition of the Red Trillium Studio Tour is going on in artists’ studios across West Carleton. This fall, 30 artists will be spread across nine studios, and you can enjoy the fall colours overtaking West Carleton as you drive from studio to studio where unique local art will be available for purchase. The event is free and you can read more about the artists on this fall’s Red Trillium Studio Tour here.
Just outside of West Carleton, but of interest to our senior readers, the Kanata Seniors Council is hosting a Health Fair, and you are invited.
The Kanata Seniors Council Health Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Kanata Seniors Centre (2500 Campeau Dr.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Come to the council’s Health Fair and explore new ways to improve your physical and mental health,” volunteer organizers released in a statement Oct. 2.
The event will provide opportunities for free screenings for things like heart valve disease, medication safety, mental health, keeping fit and other community health resources as well as clinics for blood pressure, foot care and hearing.
Saturday evening you have a couple of options for your end of day entertainment.
Share some laughs as Kinburn Comedy Nights returns to the Kinburn Community Centre (3045 Kinburn Side Rd.). Kinburn’s own Kris Kingsbury, through his comedy promotion company, is bringing a night of professional stand-up comedy to Kinburn. Doors open at 7 p.m.
In Carp, dance the night away at the Fall Harvest Dance. The dance will support the West Carleton 4-H Royal Square Dancing Club, and members will also provide demonstrations.
But you can bust out your own moves to the sounds of the Glen Silverson Band who will be performing. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
