Get in the game July 17 for the DSYTC

SOUTH MARCH – If you have ever had to tee off on Hole 1 in front of a bunch of other golfers, at some point you have probably felt shame.
And now you know how it feels. On July 17, you can support the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) by participating in the eighth annual Drop the Same and Get in the Game Charity Golf Tournament, this year held at the beautiful Marshes Golf Club.
“Join Us for Hunter’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament,” DSYTC staff released in a statement. “Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 17, and get ready for a day of golf, fun, and community spirit at The Marshes Golf Club. This exciting tournament supports Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Gather your team for a fun-filled day of golf.”
The DSYTC’s director of philanthropy Cindy Manor’s son, Hunter, organizes the tournament. Hunter was a former patient of the DSYTC and credits the organization with turning his life around.
“Today is a day my son Hunter and I have worked hard to get to and one we have eagerly anticipated,” Cindy told West Carleton Online during the ground breaking ceremony of the new facility in Carp in 2022. “Getting this new centre built has been a personal mission for us both and journey of hope and healing for me. You see seven years ago Hunter walked through the doors of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre and therein began his journey of recovery. As a parent it was the first glimmer of hope in what were so many days of darkness, illness, isolation, shame, and guilt. I have never held on to someone so tight then the day I embarked on letting Hunter go to DSYTC; and I personally had never clutched on with such desperation to the feeling of hope for my son to be healthy and happy once again.”
The golf tournament is an important fundraiser for the DSYTC and the cost is $1,000 per foursome. The day starts with registration and a barbecue lunch starting at 10:30 a.m. followed by the golf tournament. At the end of the day dinner will be served, awards will be distributed and there will be a silent and live auction, all in support of DSYTC.
“Don’t miss out,” the DSYTC said. “Let’s tee off for a great cause – we can’t wait to see you there.”
