Environment Canada: Conditions favourable for funnel clouds VIDEO

CORKERY – Environment Canada says conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today (July 11).

Environment Canada issued the weather advisory this afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. stating there is a potential hazard for funnel clouds.

“In rare cases, these may develop into a landspout tornado,” Environment Canada said. “A possible landspout tornado was reported near Almonte at 3 p.m. local time.”

Environment Canada says “more funnel clouds and possible landspouts are possible through early this evening.”

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.
