Dunrobin’s KSC celebrates new dock

DUNROBIN – Last Saturday (June 8), Kanata-Carleton MPP Karen McCrimmon met with the sailors at the Kanata Sailing Club (KSC) to hear more about the $37,900 Capital grant received from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to purchase a T- shaped floating dock.

The project will address a community need by supporting instructional and recreational activities, sailing and other, on the waterfront of the Ottawa River for many years to come.

It will also allow the club to respond quicker to on the water emergencies.

“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the KSC deliver experiences that make a difference,” Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho said. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure Kanata Sailing Club remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”

The club dock is where KSC moors its powerboats – essential components supporting club sailing programs and other on-the-water activities. They serve as coach-boats and rapid deployment rescue boats. Crucially for volunteers, the new dock offers hand-safe connection points.

“We are thrilled to accept this Ontario government grant, which addresses the community need for well-managed recreational spaces with access to the historic Ottawa River in this rural ward of West Carleton-March,” KSC Commodore Deborah McPhedran said. “Thanks to this grant, we can continue to ensure prompt support to all our water-based programming, both structured and unstructured.”

Since 1975, the mission of the KSC has been to provide sailing and social activities on a non-profit basis for its members and to promote good seamanship, sportsmanship, and fellowship at all times. There is no need to own your own boat at this club, as members enjoy access to a club-owned fleet of monohulls and catamarans. Activities include race nights, a range of sailing workshops, and social sailing rallies to local waterfront destinations on both sides of the Ottawa River. The club offers nationally certified Learn-to-Sail training for all ages seven and up. For more information, please visit the club website at: www.kanatasailingclub.com.
