ARNPRIOR – Through rain, wind and finally sun, Maureen ‘Moe’ Dunnigan was able to defend her title during the two-day Madawaska Golf Club Ladies Championship held over the weekend (Aug. 29 and 30).
Dunnigan has successfully defended her title for at least 15 years and she showed why playing strong during a rainy opening round shooting 82 Saturday (Aug. 29). That opened up a five-stroke lead over Debbie Gow going in to Championship Sunday.
“Considering the rain etc. today for our two-day club championship, Martin (Munro) and his staff did a terrific job with the greens, bunkers, yard markers, which were very much highlighted, and of course cutting fairways and the excellent job of trimming in the bush, thanks to our member volunteers,” Dunnigan said after her opening round. “Myself, as a member for 27 years, much appreciate everything you do.”
On day two, Dunnigan shot an 85 to secure the victory. Dunnigan’s two rounds were the two lowest scores of the tournament.
Josey Clouthier was the B winner, Janice Bonnar the C winner and Joan Strauss the D winner.
