COVID-19 numbers climbing in Ottawa, Ontario

OTTAWA – For the third straight day, Ontario is reporting COVID-19 new case numbers in the 200s while Ottawa also sees an increase.

According to the government’s report today (Sept. 13), the province has 204 new lab-confirmed cases of the virus compared to 232 were reported Saturday – a 12 per cent decrease in daily new reported cases since yesterday.

There were 213 cases confirmed Friday.

Ottawa, accounts for 47 of those new cases reported today — thats 20 more than reported Saturday. This is the highest number of daily reported cases since May 2. Ottawa accounts for 23 per cent of Ontario’s new cases Sunday.

There are no new deaths are being reported in the city. In the city, 280 cases remain active — an increase of almost 10 per cent since yesterday. Eleven people remain in hospital, one of which is in intensive care.

Ontario’s total case count now stands at 44,504, and Ottawa’s total tally to 3,274. So far, 39,841 cases have been resolved in the province, or 88.5 per cent of cases.  Province-wide, 39 people remain in hospital, 14 of which are in the ICU and nine on a ventilator. 

One new death has been recorded, bringing the total death toll to 2,815.

There are 27 public health units reporting five or fewer cases, with 16 reporting no new cases, Health Minister Christine Elliott reports. 

Elliott says 64 per cent of today’s new cases are among people under the age of 40.

Most new cases across Ontario are reported among those between 20 and 29 of age with 77 new cases. This is followed by the 30-39 age group with 29 new cases and then the under 20 age group with 24 cases. 

Most active cases are among 20-29-year-olds with 540 people across Ontario. 

In Ottawa, the most number of reported cases was among 20-29-year-olds with 13. This was followed by the 40-49 age group which has 10 cases, and the 60-69-year-olds which have seven new cases. 

Four cases are recorded for the 10-19 age group and there’s one new case in a child under nine years old. 

There are 19 ongoing outbreaks in healthcare and childcare establishments.

The number of tests completed since yesterday is 31,143 — a 12 per cent decrease than the number of tests that were complete and reported Saturday.
