Corkery outdoor rink a thing this winter

CORKERY – The Corkery Community Association (CCA) vice president has confirmed there will be a 2020-2021 outdoor skating season in Corkery this year.

Vice president Andrew McIsaac should know. He’s also the rink boss.

“We are excited to announce the Corkery Rink will be open for the 2020-21 skating season,” McIsaac released in a statement Sunday (Oct. 17). “Additional safety protocols will be in place.”

Corkery is the second community association to officially announce they will be operating their outdoor rink during a winter expected to be known for the COVID-19 pandemic. The Galetta Community Association announced they would operate their outdoor rink on Oct. 16.

“As always, we need volunteers,” McIsaad said. “But to gauge how many we’ll need, please answer the following survey.”

McIsaac posted a survey on social media the same time as his statement looking for feedback on how often the community thinks it will use the rink this year.

Of 61 votes as of Oct. 21, 53 respondents said they would use the rink more than usual and/or would skate more often if there was a separate no-sticks skating surface – a ‘puddle rink’ beside the original rink.

No respondent said they would use the rink less than usual.
