My first column in 2024 was a review of 2023, and my second column in 2024 (and now it’s leaked in to the New Year) will be another year in review.

OTTAWA – Ottawa is turning in to Hollywood north-east generating $52 million in economic benefit for the city in 2024, and you can get in the fun.

HUNTLEY – Long-time West Carleton Art Society (WCAS) member and painter Brenda Beattie will be offering in-person art classes starting in the New Year.

WEST CARLETON – This Christmas, why not pamper someone with a present that delivers on style and delights the senses.  

WEST CARLETON – Worried about receiving your gifts in time for Christmas Day? With the postal strike dragging in to its third week, shopping local is a great way to avoid delivery snags. 

KILMAURS – The sounds of the season will be emanating from Kilmaurs this Sunay (Dec. 8) as some of West Carleton’s most well-known local musicians perform at the quintessential county church in Kilmaurs.

GALETTA – Sunday (Nov. 24) was a cool, lazy kind of morning, the perfect type of day to head to Galetta and have someone else make breakfast for you.

WEST CARLETON – Santa will have to be agile Dec. 7, he’s the guest of honour at three different parades in West Carleton all on the same night.

FITZROY HARBOUR – For the second year since COVID, the Fitzroy Harbour Craft Market drew a large crowd to the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre on a sunny Saturday (Nov. 16) to check out the more than 40 vendors selling their one-of-a-kind products there.

CARP – The Diefenbunker 2024 Artist-in-Residence, based on his own Chinese upbringing, wanted to shine a light on the secret military base’s hidden heroes, those who weren’t soldiers, but were vital to keeping the Diefenbunker humming while it served as the emergency shelter to Canada’s highest-serving politicians.
