HUNTLEY – Ottawa’s most innovative youth treatment centre, located right here in Carp, is seeking new board members.
“We’re seeking new board members,” DSYTC staff released in a statement March 14. “The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) is looking for passionate individuals to join our board of directors, with experience in communications and community development. Help support youth and families on their journey toward recovery while making a meaningful impact in your community.”
Established in 1993, the DSYTC is a non-profit, live-in, community based agency dedicated to helping youth overcome substance use, mental health and other related challenges in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle. DSYTC programs and services include evidence-based live-in addiction and mental health treatment for youth (ages 13-21), family support and education, academics, prosocial recreation and primary care programming, as well as assertive aftercare and other specialized services (e.g., psychiatry).
“With evidence-based programs tailored to the specific needs of youth, it is the only centre of its kind in eastern Ontario that serves clients from across Ontario,” the DSYTC said.
Currently, the DSYTC is in the midst of succession planning.
“The DSYTC is planning for upcoming board retirements and future needs based on our skills matrix and strategic plan,” staff said. “The DSYTC is an engaged governance, policy and strategy board that supports the CEO and senior management team within the addiction and mental health treatment sector.”
Volunteer board members are expected to serve on at least one working committee in addition to bi-monthly meetings. Committee schedules vary and include Human Resources and Governance, Communications, Finance and Risk and Community Development. The board meets every other month on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. in person or virtual.
“We are looking for individuals who are committed to supporting the DSYTC’s goals and vision and are passionate about the health and well-being of youth and families in our community who are struggling with substance use and mental health issues,” staff said.
Applicants for board positions must possess demonstrated leadership experience be at least 21 years of age. For more information or to apply, please email Nicole Poirier at Nicole.Poirier7@gmail.com. The deadline for submitting applications is March 30.
