CONSTANCE BAY – The Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Association (CBBCA) wants to make sure you’re in tip-top shape for the Christmas season, while supporting worthy causes in the community.

The CBBCA is presenting its first Cookie Dash Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 22. It’s a 2 kilometre, 5 km or 10 km run through the community starting at the Constance Bay community centre (262 Len Purcell Dr.). The fundraiser will support both the Ottawa Human Society and the West Carleton Food Access Centre (WCFAC).

“This is our first Cookie Dash right here in Constance Bay,” CBBCA director Katrin Bachmann told West Carleton Online Oct. 29. “Christmas is coming soon, and everybody loves a good Christmas cookie. But not everybody can afford one. With this race we will raise funds to support our local food bank and humane society. Grab your friends, family and dogs and start training for this run/walk event.”

There are three races that will support the WCFAC on Nov. 22. The 10-km starts at 10 a.m. and costs $25 to participate. The 5-km run starts at 10:15 a.m. and costs $20. The 2-km run starts at 10:30 a.m. and costs $15.

There are three races where you can participate with your dog and support the Ottawa Humane Society, and they start a bit later that same day.

The 10-km run starts at 11 a.m. for $25. The 5-km run starts at 11:15 a.m. and costs $20. The 2-km run stats at 11:30 a.m. and costs $15.

The runs with dogs involve a few special rules for the protection of everyone at the community centre.

“Before your dedicated start time, please wait with your dog in the parking lot, we will bring you to the start line five minutes before your start time,” Bachmann said. “Your dog has to be on a leash no longer than six feet (two metres) at all times. Please understand, we had too many bad incidents lately with off-leash dogs here in Constance Bay.”

All participants will receive a pre-race newsletter, race big, access to purchase a souvenir race t-shirt, race and finish line photographs, a finish line cookie (and one for your dog), a chance to win a prize and discounted post-race snacks and drinks.

“Bragging rights,” Bachmann said. “And memories you won’t forget.”

The deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 21 at noon. Bib pick up will be that same day from 4 to 6 p.m. or Saturday, Nov. 22 from 8 to 11:15 a.m. at the Constance Bay community centre.
