Students in the new Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree planned and executed seven impactful events at Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus on Nov. 28, engaging the campus community while raising funds and awareness for the DSYTC. The funds raised by the students were generously matched by Adobe, bringing the total contribution to $19,602.85.

“The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is honoured to be the ongoing charity partner of Algonquin College’s Event Management programs,” DSYTC vice president of philanthropy Cindy Manor said. “We are consistently impressed with the students’ hard work and their dedication to our centre and the important work we do to support youth and their families.”

“Our students are deeply committed to supporting causes that benefit young people like themselves,” program professor Sylvia Densmore said. “The events on Nov. 28 showcased not only their hard work and creativity but also their heartfelt dedication to the cause.”

“Adobe is proud to support these talented students as they make a difference in their community,” Adobe’s Jennifer Kealey said. “We believe in fostering creativity and innovation, and these students have demonstrated both in their approach to event planning.”

Algonquin’s Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree, which launched in September of 2023, equips its graduates with leading-edge skills and knowledge, preparing them to excel in a range of careers in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The program blends academic learning with hands-on experience in-class and during two co-op work terms, enabling the students to make an impact in their community.

Established in 1993, the DSYTC is a non-profit, community-based agency dedicated to helping youth between the ages of 13 and 21 overcome substance use, mental health and other related challenges to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
