CARP – Premier fastball returns to West Carleton this weekend with the third annual Carp Shootout landing in its namesake village starting Friday (Aug. 8) evening.
With only two years of history, there is already lots of storylines to follow in the third installment of the cash tournament featuring not only some of the best fastball players in eastern Ontario, but all of Canada as well.
This year there are six teams vying for the title in a tournament that features a cash prize for every win throughout the weekend including the home team U20 West Carleton Electric, Ottawa Valley Grains, Micksburg Twins, Nova Scota Mastodons, Vars Aces and the Southeastern Ontario Screaming Eagles Juniors.
All games will be played at the beautiful Carp Fairgrounds Ball Diamonds (3790 Carp Rd.) located in the northern corner of the property.
The Electric will kick off the tournament Friday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. against the Ottawa Valley Grains.
The Electric are loaded with talent, recently taking home bronze last month at the U20 provincial championship in Grafton, ON. With strength at every position, utility player, Fitzroy Harbour’s Conner Hopper has already represented Team Canada playing in the U18 Men’s Softball World Cup in 2023.
The brand-new Carp Women’s Softball League will also play in its all-star game Friday night at 8 p.m.
The only team with its name on the trophy, two-time Carp Shootout winners the Twins will kick off their championship defence Friday night at 9 p.m. against the Vars Aces.
Last year’s tournament most valuable player Joran Graham is one of the best two-way players in the country – a devastating pitcher and power hitter.
Tournament round-robin play will continue all day Saturday (Aug. 9) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Preliminary playoff rounds begin Saturday starting at 4 p.m. with the last game starting at 8 p.m.
The tournament semi-finals and final will go Sunday (Aug. 10) with first game at 10 a.m. and the championship starting at 1 p.m.
There will be a barbecue and beer garden all weekend as well as 50/50 draws in support of bringing top tier fastball to West Carleton.
Admission is $5 Friday and $10 Saturday and Sunday. A weekend pass is $20. For more information, visit the Carp Shootout website here.
