Santa parade two ‘fer in WC Dec. 9
WEST CARLETON – It’s a two ‘fer of Santa Claus parades this weekend as the jolly big red guy hits Carp and Fitzroy Harbour Dec. 9 as he rounds out his Naughty and Nice List.
First up is the 14th annual Carp Santa Claus Parade heading out from the Diefenbunker at 6 p.m. travelling Carp Road to Donald B. Munro Drive, to Langstaff Drive, to Juanita Avenue, back down Carp Road and returning to the Diefenbunker. Road closures will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
“As we gather to enjoy a spectacular Christmas show, we’re also rallying support for the West Carleton Food Access Centre (WCFAC),” the Huntley Community Association (HCA) released in a statement. “Donations of non-perishable items or monetary contributions are warmly welcomed, helping to provide essentials for those in need.”
Firefighters will be collecting food and cash donations for the WCFAC along the parade route.
Urgently needed items include canned goods such as fruits, vegetables and beans, canned pasta, canned meat, chunky soup, canned tomatoes and tomato sauce, pudding and fruit cups and rice.
For those who would like to register a float, there is still time. Registration and staging will be at 5 p.m. in the Diefenbunker parking lot (3911 Carp Rd.).

Santa and the missus will have to haul butt to Fitzroy Harbour following the Carp parade, because that community will be hosting its second Fitzroy Harbour Christmas Parade officially earning annual status.
“It’s getting close to that time of year again,” organizer Tamara Kramer released in a statement Oct. 25. “I’ve been trying to hold off as long as I could, but with the excitement of new sidewalks, I am super excited to share the second annual Fitzroy Harbour Christmas Parade is happening Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. More details to follow soon, but in the meantime add it to your calendars.”
Organizers say the route will be similar to last year’s starting at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre.
