OPS board collecting applications for chief role

CITY HALL – Starting today (Aug. 3), interested applicants can submit their applications to become the new chief of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS).

The opportunity is advertised through the Odgers Berndtson website, the firm retained by the Ottawa Police Services Board to run the search.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for a transformational leader to come forward and apply to lead the members of the OPS,” board chair Eli El-Chantiry said. “After completing our community consultation, we know there are high expectations for the chief of police and our board is committed to selecting the best candidate who can help rebuild the trust and confidence of the Service and the public.”

As part of the recruitment process, the board solicited input from the community on the next chief of police through a community engagement strategy developed and implemented by Hefid.Solutions. The final report on the findings was presented to the Board at its monthly meeting on July 25 and is available online.

Applications will be accepted until August 31. The board is planning to hold interviews in late September/early October.

The OPS Board is the civilian body responsible for governing the OPS.  It is responsible for ensuring the provision of adequate and effective police services to the City of Ottawa’s residents.
