RRTC auditioning Great Kooshog fishing derby play Sept. 1

CONSTANCE BAY – The return to live theatre is nigh and the Rural Root Theater Company (RRTC) is getting ready hosting auditions for the comedy The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby Sept. 1.

The Norm Foster play was supposed to be the RRTC’s spring, 2020 production, but we all know what COVID-19 did to public events that year.

So the play is back and will be directed by RRTC’s Helen and Martin Weeden with performances set for Nov. 9 to 13 in the evenings with a Nov. 7 matinee.

Auditions are set for Wednesday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at the NorthWind Wireless Fibre Centre.

Some of the cast already selected is returning to the production, but the play still has three key roles to fill.

“What better way to start off a renewed theatre season but with a comedy?” the RRTC released in a statement. “The play is a fish-out-of-water tale centering around James, a naive, business techie who thinks he is really going places in his career.”

Due to car problems, on his way to a big conference where he is scheduled as a guest speaker, he finds himself stranded and frustrated for the weekend in the small town of Lake Kooshog during their annual fishing derby. While stuck there four other ‘locals’ have a good time at his expense.”

The producers are looking to fill the roles of Sienna (female, 55 plus, 356 lines), James (male, 30-45, 455 lines) and Melanie (female, 30 plus, 311 lines). For more information, you can contact the RRTC here.
