WC outdoor hockey season still up in air

CARP – One of the great pleasures of being a child in West Carleton, the West Carleton Outdoor Hockey League’s (WCOHL) volunteer organizers are on full alert monitoring the progress of the pandemic and what that will mean for one of Canada’s oldest outdoor hockey leagues.
Earlier today (Oct. 23) the volunteer Carp league convenors issued a statement.
“The Huntley Community Association (JHCA) and Carp’s league conveners are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation,” HCA bard member Amy Baldry released in a statement. “We expect an update from the City of Ottawa sometime in November indicating whether this winter’s outdoor hockey league season will be allowed to proceed or be cancelled. Any updates will be immediately.”
The WCOHL is one of West Carleton Online’s favourite sports to cover. The WCOHL is a unique program bringing the sport of hockey to West Carleton youth from seasoned rink rats to those just venturing out on to the ice for nearly the first time. Historically there have been teams in Kinburn, Fitzroy Harbour, Constance Bay, Dunrobin and Carp. Games are non-competitive but there are referees and volunteer coaches as well as weekly practice time.
“If you have any comments or questions please email the conveners (Ian and Erin) at outdoorhockey.hca@gmail.com,” Baldry said.
