OTTAWA – Ottawa’s most prestigious honour, the Order of Ottawa, will close the nomination period Sept. 11.
“Later this fall, Mayor Jim Watson will be awarding up to 15 individuals with the Order of Ottawa and one individual with the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching,” Coun. Eli El-Chantiry released in a statement today (Sept. 1). “The deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept. 11. If you know of an individual who, through their professional achievements, has demonstrated outstanding service and commitment to our city, please consider nominating them.”
In recent years, two prominent West Carleton residents have been honoured with the Order of Ottawa.
Last year, World War Two veteran and former West Carleton Mayor Dr. Roly Armitage was inducted in to the order. In 2018, Dunrobin’s Emily Glossop-Nicholson, a former member of the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team, serving as a guide skier to one of Canada’s top vision-impaired skiers who dedicates her life and career to working with children and youth with multiple physical, developmental and associated behavioural needs, was a recipient.
The awards ceremony takes place at City Hall the evening of Thursday, Nov. 19. Additional information and the online nomination form for these awards can be found on ottawa.ca/orderofottawa.
