There are eight teams participating at this year’s event including the Plattsville Lightning, St. George Aces and Chatsworth Longhorns from Ontario; Team Newfoundland and Labrador; Brookfield Elks from Nova Scotia; Equipe Quebec, and the Valley Vikings from Saskatchewan, along with the host team West Carleton Electric.

The action starts at 10 a.m. on Tuesday Aug. 4 and wraps up with the final on Sunday, Aug.  9 at 1:30 p.m. The tournament website, can be found here.

The ‘Trics, coached by Kinburn’s Trevor Barton, are heading in to the tournament on a high note having won silver at the provincial championship earlier this month.

Last year, the team won bronze. In June the Electric easily swept a double header against the South Eastern Ontario U20 Screaming Eagles.

“It’s a young group, but there is strong leadership,” Barton told West Carleton Online earlier this year. “They’re very mature. A tight group that comes to the park ready to play. No egos. This is the strongest group I’ve ever coached. I’m committed to these kids. I’m expecting us to be strong this year and really strong next year.”

Admission prices for the national championship are very reasonable – $10 a day for adults, a week pass for $50 (Seniors $40, Kids 13-18 for $30). Children 12 and under are free.

While the tournament organizers are pleased to have a large contingent of volunteers as always, there is always room for more. We especially could use grounds workers for games during the day, but other positions are available. If you can help, contact Jayne at 613-293-7262 or jcoady@xplornet.com.

This is the third time the West Carleton Fastball Committee has hosted a Canadian Championship, with previous events in 2022 (U23 Men’s) and 2024 (U20 Men’s). The Committee also hosts the Carp Shootout men’s tournament annually.
