Carp Ridge Learning Centre seeking new board members

CARP – Calling members of the West Carleton community, the Carp Ridge Learning Centre (CRLC) is seeking to grow our board with committed residents who can help us achieve our vision of supporting families and youth in the West Carleton area.

“Throughout our long history in the community, our charity has offered exciting, sustainable programs such as our weekly foraging group where families are immersed in nature and learn to identify wild edible plants and sample culinary treats made from ingredients foraged from the land,” CRLC administrative assistant Roxanne Dompierre told West Carleton Online today (June 19). “On Nov. 7, we are hosting our much anticipated third Wild Brunch where community members come together to share delicious food prepared by local youth volunteers, all with ingredients foraged from nature. We are excited to grow our other initiatives, including our Children of the Wild stall, monthly at the Carp Farmer’s Market where youth volunteers earn community service hours selling handcrafted products, crafts and teas made from foraged flora.”

This year, the CRLC also partnering with the University of Ottawa’s Community Engagement Centre to launch a pilot project to teach children and youth vital emotional regulation and stress management techniques. A research evaluation on the efficacy of the program is also planned.
